At the Al-Ihsan Library, we are excited to provide our readers with the latest in diverse Muslim books! We value high quality, representative stories that showcase lived Muslim experiences and present our narratives as normative rather than the exception.
The Al-Ihsan Library exists precisely to provide resources for and by for Muslims, especially youth, so that we do *not* have to rely on the narratives of others or form our sense of identity and self-worth based on external messaging.
The library features books for all ages and in a variety of genres: everything from board books for toddlers, picture books and sweet stories, to Young Adult novels that explore the challenges of growing up as a young Muslim, to literary fiction by and about Muslims around the world, to Islamic non-fiction that includes Seerah of the Prophets and Companions, explorations of the Names of Allah, and tafseer. The library also has books on topics not commonly discussed in the mainstream: memoirs of former Guantanamo Bay prisoners, books on Palestine & its occupation, & more.
Our decolonial, anti-racist Islamic activism is not reactive, but proactive. Our work to dismantle the impacts of kufr and colonization is a long-term endeavor, beginning at the grassroots level - with our children and ourselves.
This community library is open to all residents of Victoria, Muslim and non-Muslim!
